Cheers to little sisters!

SO I must first apologize for my vacation from the blog—my blog-cation if you will. Things have been hectic, a bit stressful, and some things very exciting so my energy was focused elsewhere, but I am ready to jump back into blogging because it is one of my favorite things to focus my energy on. So today I want to give a shout out to my little sister, Averi. Today was her first day of classes of her senior year at Texas Tech. It is almost impossible to imagine that my baby sister is going to be a senior in college. Didn't I just graduate from college, like, yesterday? Oh, yea, it was 5 years ago! (nostalgic sigh) I know Averi is struggling to believe that she is almost done with college too. Yep Av, the real world is right.around.the.corner. Be afraid. Be very afraid...But in honor of Averi (who is also about to turn 21!) I would like for everyone to reminisce about their good 'ole college days. Whether that means reading a book in the library, going to a frat party, or attending a football game (drunk) I want you all to take a moment to think about those glory days. And if you try to tell me that you didn't have any fun in college, then you are lying. So, go on a bar crawl, shot-gun a beer, do a keg-stand, get drunk on a random Tuesday night, lie about your age,  pretend like you have no responsibilities or even take the walk of shame—we all know that college was the best time of our lives. And little sisters exist so the big sisters can live vicariously through their lives...So Averi, as we all sit here in jealousy, we want you to remember how good you have it! Enjoy your senior year and the last year on Mom and Dad's dime. I love you...and don't forget—Hotty Toddy!

A good cry...

Moments after my friend posted this on Facebook I was in tears. For 10 solid minutes I watched this, cried, and thought about what it must be like to serve our country and have to be away from your loved ones. I promise this will inspire you and hopefully make you take a moment to think about all of the soldiers putting their lives on the line for us, and our country.

I love lamp. And door.

These pictures are from the headquarters of Etsy located in Brooklyn, NY. Etsy also has offices in San Francisco and Berlin. It's no wonder Etsy's headquarters are an eclectic melting pot of ideas and decor. And a ping pong table?! Genius! I love these door ideas, especially the telephone booth door! It is definitely a cool, cheap way to make a door fun and stand out from other boring doors. The second picture is honestly one of my favorite things ever. I LOVE lamp! These lamps are so funky, and creative and I am dying, dying, dying to find one! And look—Etsy uses my same idea (yes, of course it was my idea. wink, wink) of decorating a wall with vintage records! (see June 24th post). It must be fate... Now I just have to figure out a way to work for Etsy so my house can look just like their headquarters. (And so I can live in San Francisco!)

Blog Recommendation: Catalog Living

http://catalogliving.tumblr.com

I thought I would do a post today to recommend another blog that I love. Catalog Living is so funny—in my opinion. But I will let you judge for yourself. Short and sweet posts, with one picture per post. Easy enough right? Well, if you haven't already been following Catalog Living then you must. It really will make you laugh. And mostly out loud. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I do. We love you Gary and Elaine!

Florence+The Machine- Swimming

This Dance Is Out Of Your Hands by THE STEELWELLS

This Dance Is Out Of Your Hands by THE STEELWELLS

I recently heard of The Steelwells, who are a Fullerton, California based quintet. I have fallen in love with them, and have really fallen in love with this song. The OC Music Awards said that, "Whether it's shaking our fists at the sky, dancing as we hold up our hands or singing out because it's the end, The Steelwells are hard to resist and the new EP has the potential to be one of the best releases by a local band this year." Enjoy!

Quote of the Day

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."

~Marilyn Monroe

I heart Snack Bar.

Snack Bar on South Congress in Austin, TX
Shrimp and Grits
If you have't tried Snack Bar on South Congress you gotta go for their brunch. It was really great, fresh, and fulfilling. We shared the Huevos Tex-Mex, and the Shrimp and Grits, and their SB Coffee and we were most definitely not disappointed. The coffee was great, the Huevos Tex- Mex was lighter than most dishes that have the name Tex-Mex in them, and the Shrimp and Grits were just awesome. Having attended college in the South I have had my fair share of shrimp and grits, and these would give those southern masters a run for their money. The atmosphere at Snack Bar was really refreshing as well. We would have sat outside on their big, nice patio if it wasn't 102 degrees outside. So we will be back on a Sunday in the fall so we can enjoy the awesome patio, and those killer Shrimp and Grits again.

Quote of the Day

My sweet friend Leah shared this quote with me yesterday and it really stuck with me. I feel like this quote puts it perfectly—"it" being the way of life. Being 27 years young, I can relate with this quote in every way, shape and form. I hope some part of this can hit home for you too. And don't forget to smile until your face hurts!

"As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let us down, probably will. You'll have your heart broken and you'll break others' hearts. You'll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you'll cry because time is flying by. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you've never been hurt. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. You just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone's hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, be a flirt, and smile until your face hurts. Don't be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back."

Aspen, I love you too.

I am in this beautiful place called Aspen, CO right now, and it is truly heaven. Now I rave on and on about how much I love Austin, which I do, but Aspen is a place that I just didn't know what I was missing out on. First off the weather is out of a dream. Not a drop of humidity. Cool nights. Sunny warm days. And did I mention NO humidity?! It is also just a beautiful little town down in the mountains, with breathtaking views no matter where you look. The only thing is that I am out in the mountains with limited internet access, so I apologize if I can't get in a few more posts this week. I am enjoying watching the World Cup, biking and walking all over town, and just sitting outside to people watch—yes, in Aspen you can actually sit outside in the summer and enjoy it! Although I have fallen deeply in love with Aspen, I will always, and forever love Austin. Humidity and all.

I took a quick trip down to San Antonio on Sunday night to stay at Liz Lambert's newest hotel, Hotel Havana. What a wonderful place! I felt like I was stepping into a foreign country and almost forgot that I was in San Antonio. Her attention to minute detail is what sets her hotels apart from others. Every room is different, and every room is very cool. This hotel has red jar candles lit all over the place, with minimal decorations, yet very warm details, and many pops of colors with a latin flair. Every room is cozy and fun. If you haven't seen her other 2 hotels in Austin, Hotel San Jose and the Hotel Saint Cecilia, then you MUST go. San Jose has a great outdoor bar area that is by their pool and is perfect for a summer evening. And well, Natalie Portman stayed at the Saint Cecilia. Enough said. And let's not forget about her project El Cosmico in Marfa, TX. According to their website El Cosmico is "part vintage trailer, yurt, and teepee hotel and campground, part creative lab, greenhouse and amphitheatre—a community space that fosters and agitates artistic and intellectual exchange." Can we see amazing!? Dying to go see! So go check out her funky little hotels. Such great creative spots— you won't be disappointed. Keep it up Liz, keep it up!

2 versions of one song-Pursuit of Happiness

Lissie will be at ACL! So give her a listen and come out in October to hear this killer voice while sippin' on your Sweet Leaf tea. Or Lonestar. Whatever you fancy.

Aren't we all in the pursuit for happiness? I love both of these versions, and hope you enjoy!

Love Delphic! Happy Friday!

USA all the way!

All this World Cup action has been so exciting and so much fun. Even for people who are not into soccer. I've found myself jumping up an down and screaming in front of the TV every time we scored, and even planning my days around the game times. Well just this week I was watching the USA vs Algeria game at my parents house and lo and behold my Dad found these old tickets:

Yep. That's right. My Dad and I went to the World Cup, Spain vs. Korea game, back in '94 when it was in Dallas. I was 11 years old, and a total soccer-obsessed tom-boy. I actually have really fond memories of being at the Cotton Bowl and taking my picture in front of the huge soccer ball out front. For some strange reason after seeing these tickets, I am even more excited now for the USA to win it all! So let's all pull together and root on our team, America's team! I also thought you would all enjoy this video and maybe it will help bring out the champion spirit in each of you. GO USA!

Easy lil' decorating ideas

1. Agave, Cactus...Succulents if you will:  I just love these little guys. Easy to take care of, pretty to look at, and inexpensive. I purchased these little babies at Home Depot, and took that long planter from my parent's house. Someone's trash is another man's treasure!

2. Album art is art: Just a little idea to fill a wall space. These too came from my parents house and are my Dad's old vinyls from way-back-when, "when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth," as we like to say to make my parents feel old! This was also very inexpensive (free!) and easy to do. If you don't have a hip old man to steal his records from, you can buy old and new vinyls from Waterloo Records in Austin, or several vintage and thrift stores, or track some down at a good ole' garage sale.

3. Fish Bowl wall art: This too is another pretty cheap, and fun way to fill a wall space. (Can you tell that I had several empty walls that needed help?) I first saw this at my boyfriend's sisters house. She had these same wall fishbowls mounted on a smaller sized wall. I instantly fell in love! This is a great way to become a pet owner too. You can find these bowls on Wrapables.com and are around $23 each (fish not included)!

Midcentury Tree House!

http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/06/17/garden/20100617-location-slideshow.html

My friend Leah just sent me this link to this house in Mill Valley, California! How AMAZING is this! I would love to live in treehouse—I mean, who wouldn't! What a fun place to wake up everyday, and I have no doubt that this couple never wakes up on the wrong side of the bed.

Lovin' this!

A little Hockey on a Monday Morning!

I have been obsessed with this band for quite sometime now, and have seen them live 3 times this year—they are that good! If you haven't heard them yet, you MUST check them out. Their entire album is great, and they put on such a fun live show. Enjoy!!!

Keep the high-five alive!

Every time I run Town Lake I always think about how totally awesome it would be to high-five everyone you pass. Or pat the people you run by on the back while telling them "great job," keep it up" or "you can do it!" Who cares if they are strangers. They are all out there fighting for the same thing. Whether it's to lose weight, get fit, train for a marathon or just exercise, we could all use a little pick-me-up or a motivating high-five while we are working out. Especially right now in this 100 degree heat! I think the energy out there would be infectious and would completely help push people when they are about ready to quit. So who's ready to keep the high-five alive with me?

I want a Goldendoodle. Not a golden goose.

I love Goldendoodles. I finally met one for the first time last fall and was in love! Goldendoodles are described to be intelligent, affable, trainable, very human oriented, yet friendly toward other dogs, and moderately high energy dogs. Sounds perfect! I know I cannot get a dog until I am out of an apartment and into a house with a yard, but I can still dream, right? They are like living Teddy Bears, and what is better than that? To my future Goldendoodle—I love you!

Mumford and Sons make me happy.

Mumford and Sons @ La Zona Rosa in Austin, TX

I am in love with this band. I honestly cannot stop listening to them, and after their show last night at La Zona Rosa my love for them has quadrupled—if that was even possible. I really believe that their show changed my life! (A bit dramatic, but if you saw them last night then you will understand!) They are from West London, and are amazingly talented, and sound EXACTLY the same, if not better, as they do on their album—which by the way, the entire album is incredible! They will be playing at Bonnaroo this weekend, and Lollapalooza in August.

Wednesday Evening Tune

Olive You.

I went to a lovely little place called Vino Vino on Guadalupe last night and my friend was raving on and on about their olives. She ordered them, I tried one, and was HOOKED. No joke. They are fresh olives, not pickled, and are seriously the most delicious thing. The are bright green, not super salty and "meaty"—her words! They have a great wine selection that changes all the time, and it's a very cozy, neat place. I seriously want to go back and get some of these olives to-go. Go try them. They will have you telling them Olive You too!

Tuesday Tune

In honor of their show last night at Emo's I bring you Neon Indian- Deadbeat Summer and Sleep Paralysist. If you haven't checked them out yet, you MUST. Very fun, and energetic. They are originally from Denton, Texas and will be playing at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on July 18th among other shows beforehand. Give them a listen, because really—who doesn't love neon, and indians?!

Must.have.this.fuchsia.blazer.

Ah! I just LOVE this fuchsia blazer. Well, any fuchsia blazer really! But I keep seeing this one again and again and now it's all I can think about. Must be a sign right? Vanessa Bruno makes this one but I also just love the boyfriend-blazer look of that second picture. This blazer would be a perfect way to brighten your wardrobe, and could easily transition into the fall.  What a fabulous statement piece! It's kind of like the updated neon for this season. Or I could just go raid my Mom's closet instead because I am pretty sure she had this exact same jacket back in '83.

Happy 58th Wedding Anniversary! Yes—I said 58!

This post is dedicated to my loving and adorable Grandparents. My Grandmommy and Grandaddy have been married for 58 years! Yes—that's right—58! Daniel Edward Wilkins and Mary C. Browning were married on June 1, 1952. My Grandmommy was 15 years old, although she was just 3 months short of her 16th birthday, and Grandaddy was 22 years old. I had to ask again when my mom told me it was their anniversary—you mean they have been married for 58 years?? Sounds absurd right?! Well its not. It's AMAZINGLY true. You do the math. I am so blessed to have such wonderful role models in my life and I can only hope that one day in 50-some-odd years I am sitting there with my grandkids telling them about the time I met their grandfather 58 years ago. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GRANDMOMMY AND GRANDADDY! I love you! Love always, Lena cake

Quotes of the day!

“I've Learned That People Will Forget What You Said, People Will Forget What You Did, but People Will Never Forget How You Made Them Feel.” -Maya Angelou

"How people treat you is their Karma; how you react is yours." -Dr. Wayne Dyer

As a firm believer in Karma, I thought these both were such perfect things to remember. At the wedding I went to this past weekend, the groom gave a wonderful speech to his friends during the reception and in it he said that same quote about how people will never forget how you made them feel, and it reminded me again of how important that truly is.  So the next time you want to yell at someone for something, or stare at someone because they are different than you, or make fun of someone because they are different or don't fit into your box, just remember Karma is a b*tch!

Like I said, a REAL genius!

Just when you think he can't do anything smarter or cuter, he goes and does it! The new TOMS wedge has just been released and it's pretty darn adorable if you ask me! Looks super comfortable as well. Definitely adding this to my summer must-have list as well. Now what color do I get...yellow or black?  or both?!
