Newk's, oh the memories...

Located in the Arboretum by Saks 5th Avenue

I just wanted to give a shout-out to one of my college staples that has made it's way to the wonderful city of Austin—Newk's Express Cafe! I am not sure if this should be added to my "Reasons why I love Austin" list, or not, but I do know that it will forever be one of the reasons why I love Oxford, Mississippi. If you are an Ole Miss alum then you already know. You order at the counter and they bring you your food within minutes (sometimes a lot of minutes if it's a Sunday in Mississippi and you hit the non-college, church crowd-but regardless, it's worth the wait!) Their chicken salad is to DIE for, and their salads and thin crust pizzas really save the day. I went to the Austin location for the first time today and I felt like I was stepping back in time. Back to the good 'ole days where we would stroll into Newk's on a Sunday, wearing our sweats, our day-old makeup, and maybe having had a few too many the night before, and letting Newk's literally bring us back to life. (Rebels-I know you know what I am talking about. Everyone else-I know that you ALL have a place like this!) And that's not all! You get to take your oversized plastic cup home with you! And trust me, if you could see the collection of these cups I have in my cabinet then that would be all the confirmation you would need. Go, give it a try. Love it or hate it, I don't care, but it will always be one of the places that holds many memories for me. And thanks to all those cups-will stay with me forever! Thank you Ole Miss, and cheers to the glory days!

Laney's Craving

Canon PowerShot G11

10MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Stabilized Zoom and 2.8-inch articulating LCD

I have become fascinated with this camera, and have added it to my craving list. As you know I really love photography and the accessibility of snapping a quick pic. I still find myself using my iPhone camera in that spur of the moment-moment, and have to say I will always love my iPhone camera. (Even though there is still no flash!) But I hope to someday fill my craving for this G11 and take my quick pics up a notch or 5! Then I won't have to keep stealing my Mom's G9.

Late night listen

The Black Keys "Tighten Up"

The Black Keys | MySpace Music Videos

This is a killer new song by The Black Keys, who are an American blues-rock music duo consisting of vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney.  And this video is just great too if you ask me. Enjoy!

Reasons why I love Austin

Zilker Park at dawn
Zilker Park during ACL Music Festival
Zilker Park during the kite festival

So throughout this blogging journey I will be posting reasons why I love this wonderful city. (Every now and then I will post reasons why I love other fantastic cities too!) Reason # 1 why I love Austin, Texas: ZILKER PARK. If you haven't been to Austin, this is a must see, must picnic, must lay in the grass reading a book (or magazine in my case!) and a must-attend Austin City Limits Music Festival in. You'll fall in love. I promise.

Lovely Monday Tune

I'll see ya in another life brotha...

FAREWELL Lost! It was a great 6 years, and you will be terribly missed. The only thing I am going to miss more than your show is Matthew Fox. For the past 6 years we were able to watch this hunk week after week, and drool over him and his character Jack Shephard. I think the show puts it best: "I'll see ya in another life brotha..." (And hopefully another TV show ASAP!)

RIP LOST

My kind of campfire

The Parker Hotel, Palm Springs

I saw this and ABSOLUTELY loved it. I have got to find a way to duplicate this. I know what you may be thinking-butterfly chairs are difficult to get in an out of. Well, my advice, just stay in it. And enjoy the fire, the outdoors, and the company of great friends and family. And have a cocktail or two while you're at it. Sounds like heaven to me.

Mark this as my first, and most definitely not my last fashion post. Just wanted to share these AWESOME things that I love, and well, since I can't afford them, I thought that someone out there could! At least the shoes, and tee are on sale right? (All can be found at Intermix)

Tunes

If you know me, then you know my love for music is a slight problem. So throughout my blog life I will be posting tons of music videos, music info, and anything and everything pertaining to music that means something to me. Learn to live with it. (or even love it!) This is a video from one of my favorite bands. Friendly Fires is an English dance punk band from St Albans, Hertfordshire, and they rule. Enjoy.

And so it begins...

Me at Town Lake. Huggin' a monster tree.

It all started with a creative itch. To do something that lets me put whatever I want out there in the universe will surely scratch that itch, right? Hence—my blog, Laney See, Laney Do. I hope you enjoy reading, listening, and looking at all things that I see, do, and hear in my life. A few things that you should know about me:
  • I listen to tons of music, attend tons of concerts, and go to lots of music festivals. It's my version of heaven.
  • I am beyond addicted to photography, and taking pictures. Especially Polaroids.
  • I watch and love a lot of television. So what!? But I learn a lot, hear all sorts of things, and see many things I want. So truth be told, you are going to hear me blog a lot about things that I see on TV. Love it or leave it!
  • I can't sit still for very long. Ask my mother.
  • I love interior design, and decorating. (That includes rearranging, and redecorating constantly. Fault? I think not.)
  • I am obsessed with fashion. In another life I will have the most fabulous closet on planet earth, filled with Matthew Williamson, Chanel, Alexander Wang, Cynthia Vincent and all things Marc Jacobs.
  • I also might get sentimental, so watch out. (Consider this your warning!)
  • Lastly, I read all sorts of books. I really love non-fiction.
  • That last one was a complete lie, although I really would like to read more books in my lifetime. I read a ton of magazines. Does that count? Maybe I should stop watching TV?
